Bowie, Maryland, July 6, 2020: The Bowie Business Innovation Center (Bowie BIC) will receive a $200,000 grant from the City of Bowie to provide business training and technical assistance for Bowie businesses under the new Bowie COVID-19 Recovery Assistance Program unanimously approved by the Bowie City Council at their meeting tonight.
There are two elements of the COVID-19 Recovery Assistance Program:
Assistance for individuals and families provided through the Bowie Interfaith Food Pantry and Emergency Aid Fund (Food Pantry) and through Employ Prince George’s (EPG).
Assistance for Bowie businesses provided through additional training. This training will be provided by Bowie BIC through a partnership that will be established with the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) to deliver training and technical assistance for Bowie- based small businesses over the next 12 months.
“Bowie BIC and the GBCC have collaborated regularly on business assistance programs and special events since the inception of Bowie BIC nine years ago,” said Lisa S. Smith, Bowie BIC’s founding executive director. “We look forward to working in partnership with the GBCC through this City grant to deliver much-needed training and technical assistance to Bowie small businesses coping with the economic impacts of COVID-19,” Smith continued.
Bowie BIC and GBCC are finalizing plans for a coordinated online assistance program for Bowie businesses that will begin in August and include webinars, business counseling and technical assistance in accounting, legal, marketing and business strategy.
